Parts 2-4 in original wrappers; pages of Parts 3 and 4 are uncut [can be cut upon request]. Original wrappers of Part 2 reattached with binders tape; chipped and spotted, worn spine. Published in 4 parts over a period of 21 yrs. Chapin went to the Belgian Congo (today Zaire) in 1909 at the age of 18 where he remained until the outbreak of WWI. On his return to New York, he resumed his studies and then produced the present work, 'one of the most thoroughly prepared and notable faunal works in the literature of ornithology and an indispensable work on African birds.'
