Forty-two color plates of forty-four species of waterfowl known to nest regularly in North America. Edition limited to 1000 copies signed by Zimmerman. Introduction and editorial supervision by Olin Sewall Pettingill, Jr. A massive oblong volume, 28 in x 22 in. Included are two signed and numbered prints from the work measuring 27 and a half by 21 and half (82/100) one of Common Mergansers and the other of Buffleheads with Golden Eagle in pursuit. Printed on special formula paper, the plates face a text page with a range map and the artist's notes on the species. Bound by Cincinnati Bindery with a dark green leather spine over green cloth boards with an inlaid cover medallion. Covers somewhat worn, sun fading to portion of front cover. A massive book, shaken. A native of Indiana, Zimmerman (1937-2011) was a highly regarded artist whose paintings illustrated books on the birds of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. His paintings of 24 species of woodpeckers accompanied a reissue of Arthur Cleveland Bent's Life Histories of North American Woodpeckers in 1992.
