Neither a true 'checklist,' nor a field guide, this is an essential reference work for any naturalists' library.
Two works in one: A complete checklist with new taxonomy -and- a compact version of HBW with updated taxonomy, texts, illustrations and maps for all of the birds of the world, in two volumes.
The Handbook of the Birds of the World has taken 20 years to complete. In that time new species have been discovered, but there have also been important changes in bird taxonomy. The aim of this checklist, which is published in cooperation with Birdlife International, is to address all of these important changes.
This is the first ever fully illustrated checklist, with maps and detailed distributions of all of the species and subspecies levels, and is completely updated at the macrosystematic, species, and subspecies levels. The first volume covers the non-passerines.
