Field Guide=A guide with illustrations or photographs for identification
This invaluable book is the ultimate pocket guide to the birds of Britain and north-west Europe. Covering birds of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Britain, and Ireland, it describes 386 species, including all breeding species and all regular and scarce migrants.

The definitive and accurate text highlights the key features that are required to make quick and safe identification. Almost every species is illustrated with a plate and all plumages regularly seen in the region are depicted, and most include color range maps. Similar species are compared to scale on double-page spreads as an aid to identification.

Chris Kightley is the founder of Limose Holidays, one of Britain's leading bird tour operators. Steve Madge, one of Britain's foremost birders, has led bird tours and is the author of several books on birds. Dave Nurney is an illustrator whose work has appeared in many books and magazines.

Covers 386 species. Range maps.

Our Opinion: This is an excellent illustrated field guide that is the perfect size for having with you at all times. Focusing on Britain and North-west Europe, this guide covers all 385 species that occur regularly in the region. This effectively covers all of Western Europe other than Iceland, Spain, Portugal and Italy, although the great majority of species to be found there are included within this book, as are the bulk of those occurring in neighboring Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia and Slovenia. Excellent color illustrations by Dave Nurney are accompanied by concise yet complete field guide text and color distribution maps. Multiple plumages are illustrated whenever possible, including breeding, non-breeding, male, female, or juvenile, as well as in-flight posture. This guide was ahead of its time, and its format has now been widely adopted elsewhere.
