Sixty plates mounted on card stock with tissue guards: twenty-four in color and thirty-six in black & white depicting birds and a handful of mammals. 'This series of water color and pencil sketches reproduced in this volume have been gathered from various sketch books and portfolios, representing part of the congenial though by no means easy labour of some thirty years, and were drawn mostly direct from life in many parts of the British Islands, with a few pictures, showing the birds in their natural surroundings, have been added.'
