The Second Geological District covers the seven counties north of the Mohawk Valley, bordered on the west and north by Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, on the east by Lake Champlain, and includes the Adirondack and associated ranges. Plates I-XVII include hand-colored maps of Jefferson and Clinton counties, many colored cross-sections, three pictorial views of Hamilton County by J.W. Hill, and fossils. The text is illustrated with numerous engravings and woodcuts.
