=A guide with illustrations or photographs for identification
With about 350 species, hummingbirds represent one of the largest bird families in the world. This book is a fully-illustrated guide to all of the world's hummingbirds in all of their major plumages. Though many books devoted to the natural history of the family already exist, this is the first to describe and map them all in a single format genuinely friendly to the field. Text deals with the range, habitat, feeding, reproductive habits, behavior, song, identification and racial variation for each species. Field notes accompany the illustrations to help identification. Maps include the known ranges for each subspecies, a feature not included in previous literature about hummingbirds.
