A very good copy of the Subscriber's Edition in a rubbed mylar dust wrapper. Bound in green cloth with a brown cloth spine. Shelf wear and lightly bumped corners. No. 44 of 485 signed and numbered copies of the Subscriber’s Edition. A Catalog of Books Ancient and Modern Relating to Falconry Published in the English Language 1486 to 2000. The Archives of Falconry, Volume IV. Bibliotheca Accipitraria II is the first comprehensive updating of James Edmund Harting's catalog since 1891. It has expanded to 615 individual citations of works published in English from 1486 to 2000 along with references to hundreds of their reprints. Each citation contains a specific bibliographic description along with the author's anecdotal information about each book's author and subject matter, publishing history, and significance. Includes eighty illustrations depicting many of the rarest works on falconry. This book is designed to enable present and future falconers and book collectors to distinguish between various editions as well as to identify the rarity and value of each work. The limited Patron's Deluxe edition is also available from Buteo.
Our Opinion: This book is a far more exhaustive annotated bibliography than Edmund Harting's original 1891 edition. More than just an update, this book includes biographies of contributors, a tribute to James Edmund Harting, references, index, a chronological list of titles, and a beautiful section of color plates illustrating the cover art of 80 selected titles. The book concludes with a list of libraries with outstanding holdings of falconry books.
While the earlier edition, published in 2000, included titles in nineteen different languages, this edition focuses on books published in English.
