When Roger Tory Peterson's A Field Guide to the Birds was published in 1934 it was an instant success and became the field guide for generations of birdwatchers. Identifying the various editions and printings of the field guide has always been a challenge and Bastian describes each and every point needed to correctly determine the numerous editions and printings of RTP's seminal work. The 'Guide to the Guide' is illustrated in color and black and white with dozens of images of the book, dust jackets, title pages, etc. An excellent bibliographic reference for booksellers and collectors alike.
Collectors will enjoy reading about the special issues as well as seeing the points of all the printings from all of the editions. There are numerous printings spread across the six editions of this book. Changes in cover and dust jacket styles combine to produce a wide array of 'looks' for this book in its many permutations. So many so, that even book dealers become confused by the scores of possibilities. This presentation will help book sellers and book collectors alike identify and categorize any copies of the Guide that they happen across.
