Buteo Books is very pleased to offer a complete set of John James Audubon's The Birds of America: from Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories. First Royal Octavo Edition. New York & Philadelphia: J.J. Audubon & J.B. Chevalier, [1839] 1840-1844. First Royal Octavo Edition. Complete in seven volumes, illustrated with 500 hand-colored lithographic plates. The first Royal Octavo Edition was the first to combine illustrations with text, and is rightly considered to be Audubon's greatest contribution to American ornithology. Bound in contemporary full dark brown Morocco with edges gilt. Bindings have been professionally restored. The plates are bright and the coloring superb with tissue guards present. This edition, which is the only 8vo published by the author himself, was issued in 100 parts, 14 of which are found in each Vols. I-VI, and 16 in Vol. VII. - Zimmer
