BUTEO BOOKS WEIGHS IN:
We are pleased to see that this set of flash cards lives up to the Sibley name. Each single card shows two illustrations, usually showing a female, juvenile, race, or plumage variation. Field marks are pointed out in a similar fashion to Sibley's field guides. The verso of each card shows the English and scientific name, length, wingspan and weight, habitat, description, voice, and a multi-color distribution map. There is no cheat sheet explaining abbreviations or the range map colors, so a beginner may have to use these cards in conjunction with the Sibley field guide(s). Overall, this should be an excellent tool for beginners to learn, or more advanced birders to stay sharp or gear up for a trip across the country to new territory.
