The most up-to-date and user-friendly field guide to the birds of Borneo, covering Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and the Indonesian state of Kalimantan. All 669 species living or reported on the island, including 52 endemic species, are superbly illustrated in color plates by renowned illustrator Karen Phillipps. Size 210 x 148mm / 8.25 x 6 in. This is the book I wish I had when I first visited Sabah - a wonderful book, which I could not rwecommend more highly. - Professor Frederick H. BUTEO BOOKS WEIGHS IN:
This book begins with graphic indexes to the birds by habitat, with page numbers next to thumbnail color paintings, followed by an introduction to Boneo and its wildlife, habitats, and migration, and local contacts. The plates are organized taxonomically according to Mann's Borneo Checklist (2008), and are situated opposite text which includes English and Latin names, size, status, identification details, call, and range, plus a multicolor distribution map. Throughout the text are very helpful sidebars. The book concludes with several site guides, a glossary, bibliography, useful websites, ecological and text notes, and indexes of scientific and common names. It also includes a regional and topographical map of Borneo. Allen Hale's review is that all of this bonus information makes this book well worth the additional price against comparable guides.
