Until this book was published birdwatchers visiting the Middle East and North Africa had been frustrated by the lack of a comprehensive field guide to these bird-rich regions. This excellent guide - illustrated with exquisite accuracy and clarity by Ian Willis and with a thorough, well-researched text by three highly respected ornithologists - brought sighs of relief from Agadir to Bahrain!
This book is intended as a companion to guides which primarily cover the birds of Europe, notably A Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Europe by Peterson, Mountfort and Hollom. It includes all known breeding, wintering, migratory and accidental species in the region. Of over 700 species covered 350 are illustrated in 40 color plates, focusing on the birds not illustrated in Europe/North Africa guides. Where appropriate, there are several paintings of a specise to show plumage differences of sex, age, race and season. In addition there are over 100 line drawings as aids to identification in the text.
The species accounts treat identification with special thoroughness and there are also sections for voice, habitat and status, plus two-color distribution maps.
Covers: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
