VIRGINIA BIRDING TOURS
PIEDMONT AND THE APPALACHIANS April 28 - May 3, 2005. Price -TBA This birding adventure
will begin in Nelson County, Virginia, home of Buteo Books and coincides with the peak of
Spring Migration. Each day during this period brings new arrivals. Warblers setting up
territory within walking distance of Buteo Books, include Prairie, Hooded, Worm-eating,
Common Yellowthroat, and Yellow- breasted Chat. Both Kentucky and Blue-winged Warblers have
nested in the area, though not every year. We will explore the best birding areas from the
James River to the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains for two days, then we will head across
the Shenandoah Valley to Virginia’s Little Switzerland, Highland County. Here we will stay
at Bear Mountain Lodge on the border with West Virginia for two nights. Since this is a new
trip, we are still in the process of working out the details.
