Product Details

"The series has developed into an immense and an immensely valuable resource, as well as one that has a unique aesthetic." -(Ibis 151/4)

The first volume of the Handbook of the Birds of the World was published in 1992 and we expect the final volume (16) will be published in 2012. This monumental series deserves a storage solution that will both display and protect it to allow for a lifetime of use and enjoyment.

Working with local craftsmen and native woods, Buteo Books has commissioned designs for two bookcases and stand-alone book stands to showcase the complete set of the Handbook of the Birds of the World. The case and stand can be made from a variety of native wood species to fit your taste. Customers may choose between cherry, oak, sassafrass or walnut when ordering their made-to-order bookcase and stand. Quotes can also be provided for the wood species of your choice.

A separate bookstand, designed to hold the open book, is available to match either design, for $200. It is free standing and can be moved to a desk or table for the convenience of the reader.

The custom-made booksstand is sized specifically to hold an open individual volume of the series, to allow for easier utilization of the ten-pound tomes.

This item is made-to-order. Please allow two weeks for completion, and contact us with any special requests. Please contact us if you have any questions.
