Concise descriptions are provided for every species, highlighting plumage variation and distinctions from similar species. Up- to-date information on where to watch birds on Trinidad and Tobago is given. The book includes an overview of the geography, climate and habitats of the islands. This new edition has been completely revised. The plates have been extensively re-worked, with many images replaced and repainted. As a result, there are now eight extra plates, and some groups, such as flycatchers, have been repainted almost in entirety. The text has also been updated. This new edition supersedes all previous field guides to these popular islands.

While the first edition covered "almost 470 different species", this new edition covers "over 470 species," illustrating and describing every species known to occur naturally or to have been successfully introduced up to mid-2010. The color plates have been increased from 107 to 115. While the vast majority of the illustrations were taken from Birds of Northern South America (Restall et al 2006), some 500 new images have been replaced or aded as necessary, in order to accurately depict the correct subspecies with up-to-date taxonomic information.

The guide also includes a complete Official Checklist. Its compact size and easy to use format is very helpful, but this guide lacks distribution maps. Much more compact than the classic Guide to the Birds of Trinidad and Tobago by Richard ffrench, this is sure to be the standard choice for T&T.
