NEW BOOKS ABOUT OWLS

More than an identification guide, it describes their biology and behavior and explores the conservation challenges that they face. 326 pp. Paper. $19.95

The book is divided into five sections, on biology, life, finding and watching owls, conservation, and species accounts. Each section is heavily illustrated with photographs and illustrations. The first section, An Owl's Body, covers the owl from head to talon, covering senses, vision, skeleton, legs, wings, feathers and digestive system. An Owl's Life covers predators and predator avoidance, hunting and eating, and reproduction. Finding and Watching tells when and where to look, how to listen, tracking and finding, identification and photography. Owls and Humans covers attitudes past and present, owls in the modern world, and conservation issues.

Lastly, the species accounts are each several pages long, illustrated with photos, illustrations, and distribution maps. There is also a separate section of color plates.
