Spotlight on author Ernest P. Edwards

Ernest P. Edwards is perhaps best known for his excellent field guide to the Birds of Mexico, first published in 1972. A second edition was published in 1989, and the newest edition, currently considered one of the best for the region, in 1998.

A Field Guide to the Birds of Mexico and Adjacent Areas: Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Third Edition. Texas, 1998. Color plates by Edward Murrell BUTLER depicting some 850 species. 209 pp. Cloth - $35.00; Paper - $22.95

No other field guide for Mexico includes as many North American species, 1070 species in all, making it possible to use this book as a single-volume guide to Mexican birds. Copies of the Second Edition (1989) are still available for $10.00.

Recently, Mr. Edwards completed an update to his Field Guide, which is also a complete checklist to the region:

EDWARDS, Ernest P. Checklist of the Birds of Belize and the Mexican Yucatan, Tikal and Palenque. A Supplement and Up-date for A Field Guide to the Birds of Mexico. Published by the author, 2004. With errata and index. A complete checklist for the birds of the Yucatan Peninsula, including Belize and northern Guatemala. Most of the publication is a checklist, and there are two color plates on the inside front covers, supplementing the field guide, by Ramiel Papish. 18 pp. Paper. $4.95
